Hello YouthfulNest readers! My name is Shelbi and I’m a lifestyle blogger over at EverydayMrs as well as a first-time expecting mom. Being a first-time mom is overwhelming for so many reasons. However, nursery design doesn’t need to be one of these reasons. Today I want to share with you four nursery tips I have for fellow nursery newbies (or even second time moms who may need a little extra motivation!). Then you might be house hunting for a bigger place – maybe a home with enough room for a separate nursery or a large one bedroom urban apartment with space to carve out a spot for baby. In either case before you jump on Zillow or go on showings with a realtor, I have a few home search tips and interior considerations to help you be more prepared to make room for baby.

As parents we look to keep our kiddos healthy. We are concerned about the food that goes in their bodies; the clothes they wear on their back; the shampoos that wash their hair. So don't forget the place where their entire bodies rest for 8-14 hours – their mattress. We are super fans of investing in a quality mattress for both the crib and their big kid bed. Not only do you need to select the proper firmness for each stage there is also the decision to make about the functionality in terms of bed wetting. And finally lets talk about the health and safety benefits of that mattress. To do this topic justice we catch up with our friends at Naturepedic, producers of luxury organic mattress for the entire family. Learn what safe, healthy sleeping really means. I decided it was time to high-jack a blog post to share my personal mom-to-be nursery design story being it is the reason my company YouthfulNest was born. This isn't a snoozy startup story. It's me sharing insights as an anxious, first time mom who nested so hard, trying to make everything perfect, that I ruined my brand new white nursery carpet – months before bringing home my baby. I definitely had an out-of-body experience being a first time mom-to-be. I wanted everything in the nursery to be "perfect" before bringing home my baby. This made me realize just how unique and challenging a baby nursery was to create, even for a seasoned designer. It was my own struggles with overwhelming decisions, budget, room size and functionality which led me to developing a better interior design experience. One that would help other parents do it with more ease and confidence. This post may contain affiliate links which help support our blog efforts. This is sponsored by various retailers.
Today we are revealing this beautiful baby boy's Neutral Nursery completed with our online design service. Of course it didn't start out this way. In fact, it was the perfect pink and pretty room – for a little girl. Our client, Liz Lentis and I had connected over our love of saving moms time and money. Liz is the co-founder of LittleList.com, a site dedicated to introducing moms and moms-to-be to new products at exceptional promotional prices. When I learned Liz was pregnant with her second child, a little boy, and tackling a big makeover I filled her in on how our convenient, virtual interior design services would be the perfect fit for her busy schedule and time sensitive design needs. Since she knew she would be tackling a complete overhaul including new furniture and new wall color, she decided to go with our most popular edesign services rolled into the YouthfulNest Premium package. "The space needed such a dramatic makeover and I didn't know how it would be without the designers seeing it in person. But I was able to send send inspiration via Pinterest and the YouthfulNest team nailed it in terms of my vision for a neutral nursery." -Liz |
