Today we are revealing this beautiful baby boy's Neutral Nursery completed with our online design service. Of course it didn't start out this way. In fact, it was the perfect pink and pretty room – for a little girl. Our client, Liz Lentis and I had connected over our love of saving moms time and money. Liz is the co-founder of LittleList.com, a site dedicated to introducing moms and moms-to-be to new products at exceptional promotional prices. When I learned Liz was pregnant with her second child, a little boy, and tackling a big makeover I filled her in on how our convenient, virtual interior design services would be the perfect fit for her busy schedule and time sensitive design needs. Since she knew she would be tackling a complete overhaul including new furniture and new wall color, she decided to go with our most popular edesign services rolled into the YouthfulNest Premium package. "The space needed such a dramatic makeover and I didn't know how it would be without the designers seeing it in person. But I was able to send send inspiration via Pinterest and the YouthfulNest team nailed it in terms of my vision for a neutral nursery." -Liz This post may contain affiliate links which help support our blog efforts. HACK #1: SAMPLES Not sure how that crib bedding will look with shade of lavender paint you picked out for your nursery? Or if that hand-scrapped, hardwood flooring is really the color it shows on your screen? Then order a sample, heck order several! If you are ordering furniture or decor items made of upholstery, leather, wood, or metal be sure and check with the online retailer to see if they offer swatch samples. Some are free and others are available at a minimal fee. Many retailers will also ship them to you for free so no need to worry about incurring any extra costs. Even if you're ordering samples at a price it is worth your time and money to confirm what you are actually ordering rather than guessing on what something might look like. Otherwise you may find yourself spending more than just a few dollars wasting your time going through an unnecessary return process. These professional tools take the guess work out of shopping on line. You can match up swatches across different brands to see if colors and textures work together. Not to mention super convenient for bringing around with you while you shop at various actual “brick & mortar” stores. A much better option then lugging that comforter set around with you. Am I right? Favorite retailers for samples: Serena & Lily: bedding, decor pillows, rugs, drapery & upholstery The Land of Nod: bedding, rugs, drapery, furniture finishing & upholstery Restoration Hardware: bedding, drapery, rugs, upholstery & furniture wood Anderson Hardwood: flooring Joann Fabric & Craft Store: fabric & upholstery Dwell Studio: upholstery West Elm: rugs & furniture Crate & Barrel: rugs & furniture Pottery Barn: rugs & furniture wood Loom Decor: fabrics & upholstery Colorhouse Paint: mini paint colors I have been working for weeks and weeks from my chilly studio with my favorite hand-knit blanket on my lap and the warmest wool socks on my feet. As I am sourcing pieces to complete clients' rooms I notice that my eye is gravitating towards warm, cozy, furry, fuzzy, fluffy, and snuggly pieces. In other words I’ve been craving all the hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) I can handle. What better looks to bring into your nursery or child's bedroom than lots of feel good pieces? While we all want that luxurious quality in such touchy feely things, sometimes in our kids room we find the need to save instead of splurge. That doesn’t mean you need to scrimp on style. These savvy prices on our favorite hygge styles will have you feeling warm and fuzzy all over! I just want to live in Ferpie and Fray's world of hygge – a comfy cozy place surrounded by familiarity. Amanda's refinished furniture pieces are like therapy for the soul of your home. You don’t look, you have a conversation with them and afterwards feel calm and comforted.
When I look at her work I get a sense of something that's always been there – as if they always existed exactly the way she has refinished them. They are understated, statement pieces that are painted in gentle, rich and sometimes slightly daring hues. I often find myself immediately drawn to a piece and then looking back at it a few more times to discover all the little details that it posseses, each time seeing something new; subtle curve of the legs; intricate carved detail; or even the spacing of the knobs or pulls. Keep reading and you'll see why Amanda's work makes you look twice. And wanting more. This post may contain affiliate links which help support our blog efforts. Harper is a darling little two and a half year old who walks around on her tippy toes even hours after her ballet class has ended. Her mom, Kim, and I met each other through our participation in a local Mom’s Club. So I was tickled pink to learn that she had won a donated YouthfulNest kid's virtual interior design service made to the Omaha Rose Theatre auction. Kim Nolan and her husband Jimmy wanted to give their daughter Harper a very special third birthday gift – a very personal big girl bedroom. Today I share a very special toddler girl's bedroom reveal – it is for my totally adorable niece Graelin who packs big personality into a littles body. Her mom loved the convenience of our virtual interior design services since they are in Atlanta and I am in Omaha. I’ve been waiting two years to get my virtual design hands on this little girl's room. That's because when Graelin was born my sister and her husband had just moved to Atlanta, GA and were living in a condo until they could find the right house and neighborhood in Decatur, GA. Graelin is now 2 and a half. So while I didn’t get to create a nursery design for her I did pour my heart and soul into her “big girl” kid's bedroom design. How to make your DIY not look DIY? The dresser in my son's nursery is over 50 years old, so yeah sorta heirloom since it has been in my family and used by children for three generations. If you are thinking long term, than you want a piece that is both of quality and classic styling. Something that can sneak into almost any room style without being overstated or ornate. Tips on landing a piece in this category would be to stay away from trends, like industrial metal accents that might get old by the time they become a tween. Look for a piece with clean lines; one made of wood so that it could be repainted/refinished over the years; and consider a piece where you could change the feet or swap out the hardware. There are so many cool knobs and pulls out there from woodland creatures to chic Lucite and gold rods.
