If you are like me you can't stop gazing at this nursery image and not feel pure joy. It also makes me smile because I recall the first conversation I had with Christine Yeargin, author of Cake for Breakfast blog, about her vision for the nursery and the bold, bright oversized floral print she was in love with.

After seeing our first designs and considering the bolder wallpaper prints Christine decided they just weren't for her and we moved away from colorful wallpaper to a minimal look using a clean wall paint as the backdrop to delicate, fresh and soothing styling. We're calling it Boho Chic.

Behind the sceneS

On my initial call with Christine I learned that this loving mom was ripe for our e-design service. She was working our of the home, mom to a toddler girl Kingsley and a tween boy Noah. Plus she and her husband Nathan were already were in the process to become foster parents when they learned they were pregnant with their second child together. Yikes!

So this being a busy household was an understatement. And of course things were about to get busier, Christine's decision to partner with YouthfulNest on the overwhelming process of planning her nursery was an easy one. We worked with her through our Essential service package and she purchased a Color Consult and Room Installation Guide to give her extra design direction for perfecting the room. This document provided exact placement of furnishings and décor as well as specific styling tips just for her unique space – which you will see she followed to perfection.

DESIGN TIME

We paired up Christine with a dream design team of myself, Lisa Janvrin and new YouthfulNest designer Shelbi Gustafson. Shelbi was tasked with curating the design and majority of communication with Christine – my role was one of design process support and to develop brand partnerships that were right for this space making.

So, every project has one or two major priorities and for Christine and her family it was staying on budget. Not an uncommon need from our clients, but we really worked to find the right products, in the right style, at price points, that would stick to her budget or come under her original budget.

Shelbi presented a few rounds of designs until she and Christine landed on just the perfect blend of style, functionality and price. Tweaking products up until the time of installation, which is common.

SPLURGE VS SAVE

Even on a budget there were a few splurges, the main one was the changing area dresser. After lots of back and forth on different options provided by Shelbi, Christine took her designer's advice and went with her original recommendation.

While the dressers price tag was high for her comfort level she liked the idea of going with a quality piece that will grow with her child and future room needs – ultimately saving money over the years. (Sometimes the smart and savvy purchase isn't always the cheapest.)

In order to balance out her dresser splurge the designer and Christine found other places to save like reusing a gorgeous leather pouf and floor lamp the Yeargins had in another part of their home. Shopping your home is a practice we recommend all our clients consider – take a look around your home to see what furniture or décor might work in your nursery is a super way to save.

Beautiful Nursery Furniture

FAvorite Things

Christine was able to find some must-have pieces in other rooms of her home for the nursery. This nursery set-up trick made it possible to get everything else on her list and stay in her  original budget.

Starting with the big statement pieces there is the gorgeous golden and pink distressed area rug from Paynes Gray. You might think this was an easy pick, what's not to love? Truth, finding the right rug was the most difficult piece to nail down for style, color and price.

Christine had been eyeing the Seagraas woven basket from Nouella for the changing table and Shelbi agreed it was a perfect touch. Not your typical changing pad, but a subtle design element.

You may know by now that we love to add a little visual interest near the crib, weather a mobile or art work. In this case, we included both a sweet personalized birth stat wall hanging from Love Found and attention grabbing brass mobile from Burke Decor.

FORM & FunCTION

While some pieces seem purely decorative others are meant to add much need functionality to a unique space such as a baby room.

The simple blackout curtains are one of those items. While this room already had a basic set of white blinds, they weren't going to keep out enough light nor did they bring any beauty to the space. We paired the clean white solid curtains with a touch of bling of a brass curtain rod then went with brass rings for a touch more of easy elegance.

Fresh Start

While this spare room was already a creamy white, it looked a bit dull and definitely needed a refresh! Christine wound up picking the wall color Fresh Kicks from Clare Paint. It was her favorite in a line-up presented in her YouthfulNest color consult. She also smoothed out and refreshed her ceiling with Clare's classic ceiling white.

You can see in the after images how bright the space turned our while it remains still cozy. Keeping a white room from feeling cold comes from layering lots of other "whites", textures, and small pops of color.

BEFORE & AFTER

The trifecta of functionality in the nursery is the crib, changing table and glider. These areas are big winners in our book of style. Take a look and you be the judge.

Round of Applause

So we can't take all the credit for this gorgeous nursery room reveal. The fact is Christine and her husband, Nathan were ultimately responsible for taking their designers product and styling recommendations and installing it all themselves. As you can see they did an impeccable job.

Our best wishes to this lovely family and welcome to the world Parker Rae Yeargin!
