Where do we start with this insanely happy place of a boys' bedroom? It's like no matter where you look there is built in fun even when it comes to the bed situation. We've got bunk beds that look like the most stylish tree houses, a play gym mounted right onto the wall and something literally named a play sofa. So you can just imagine how excited these two little boys were when they saw their new space?  We were a few rounds of design into Megan Sullivan's baby girl nursery when she realized how much she appreciated her eDesign experience with YouthfulNest. Not only were we saving this busy pregnant mom of three boys time, we impressed her with our product knowledge and aesthetic. Megan and her family were in the midst of an enormous home renovation project of their historic Connecticut home. With the nursery in good hands she was starting to plan a bedroom for her two youngest boys. The space didn't even exist except in 2D building plans. So having a designer with the ability to envision a 3D space and realize her vision was invaluable.
 Design PhaseTypically there is one item the client has their eye on for a particular space. Often that is the jumping off point for the entire room's design. For Megan's nursery we designed right before this bedroom it was the wallpaper she fell in love with. For her sons' bunk room she wanted it to be full of wonder and play. It was the bunk bed that lead the way for all the fun and whimsical styling that was to come. The Essential eDesign service that Megan purchased for this room gave her 15 days to work with her designer on finding all the right pieces. It also came with a floor plan and color consult.   A Few of our favorIte thingsIf we had to pick a theme that inspired this bedroom it would be "play". While this isn't a common design style, it is the idea behind all the room selections. Yes, it is possible to create a style that is whimsical and sophisticated at the same time. This is a popular request from parents who want their child's room to be fun without being babyish. We set the tone with one the most iconic wallpapers out there, Daydream by Hygge & West. The playful print with swirling clouds and swooping birds come is various colorways but to keep the mood of the room more mature designer Cortney selected the stye in Light Gray.  The first piece of large furniture that was nailed down were the bunk beds. Megan wanted something that was simple yet special that encouraged creativity and play. These luxe cabin style bunks are perfect for glamping safely inside. To make these sleep spaces even more dreamy, the softest bedding bundle from Cozy Earth was selected for all four beds. Each set covered a Naturepedic Verse organic mattress for a truly healthy sleep. All sleep spots were finished with a wild print décor pillow from Paynes Gray.     For story time, modern industrial sconces in black from Lowe's were installed for each bunk. They can be installed as a plug-in or hardwire. These lights are super safe and highly functional. The cage design provides a protection from a hot light bulb. It also is totally adjustable for positioning the light right where it is needed.  For cozying things up and cushioning play we've layered in two rug styles. The first, a monochromatic area rug we found from Lowe's. The second is from our friends at Kroma Carpet, an oversized faux-fur pelt.   Now for the really fun stuff! This kids' room is decked out in the hottest trending playtime pieces – a play sofa. No more yelling "kids stop jumping, standing or tumbling on the couch!". That's exactly the type of silly behavior that is expected from Shenanigan Kids, the company who makes The Figgy. To liven things up we added a couple of wild throw pillows, again from our friends at Payne's Gray. 
The Swedish wall gym from Wedanta is just over the top fun. With a rope ladder, trapeze, swing, removable pull up bars, etc. being sent to their room is going to be their goal everyday. For safety The Figgy play sofa can come apart and placed underneath the gym.  For quick clean up after play we added a couple of open storage baskets from Chloe & Cotton. We imagine even tidying up will become a game of H.O.R.S.E.
COMinG TOGETHERFinally, it was time for some retail therapy! Products were getting ordered and starting to arrive at the Sullivan's new home. But not everything was available right away. There were some items that were on backorder due to product popularity, the pandemic and natural disasters that slowed production. We are still experiencing these delays today so we recommend starting your eDesign process sooner than later. There were some items we presented that the client didn't choose to go purchase from our source. And that is totally ok. For example Megan found similar oversized natural woven pendants when visiting a local shop and they look amazing! We got periodic updates on how the install was going in this brand new space.
