After years of designing spaces for clients it was finally my turn for a home makeover. My husband and I have finished turning our modest raised ranch into a minimalist oasis full of light and luxury. The moral of this design story is that every home is worthy of moments of thoughtful design and premium details. This post is a long time coming – over three years to be exact. That is how long my husband and I have been planning and executing our whole home renovation and addition. This remodel had so many set backs and obstacles over the years. From having to terminate our original general contractor and framing crew mid-build to being shut down by the city inspector. We have since moved in and loving all the functionality and beauty we have created. Now that we are here, I am not going to rehash the jagged journey. Rather simply showcase all the sweet spots we will be enjoying in for years to come. They are intentionally minimalistic and meant to inspire you to slow down. Fall is more than a time of year; it is a mindset. It is the season of relaxing and indulging. For our ancestors, “Sweater Weather” signified the harvest. It was when the rest of the year's hard work finally paid off. This feeling, of what Fall means, has transcended into the modern-day. Especially after we all have endured so much in 2020, we owe ourselves a season of exhales and comfort. As a parent, I am constantly concerned with how our children have had to adjust. Part of being a good parent is giving them security and consistency. The events from this past year have made providing these things especially hard. Yet, you may consider this an opportunity to solidify their home as a true sanctuary. As the days grow shorter and the air grows cooler, relish in the sacred season. Few occasions in a person’s life are more exciting and celebratory than a pregnancy and the birth of a child. In fact, if you ask any mother what the most exciting day of her life was, she will most likely forgo her wedding or graduation day and without hesitation cite her baby’s birth as the number one best day ever (we can easily understand why). Of course, we are not living in typical times. The coronavirus pandemic has put many in-person celebrations on hold, including baby showers, gender reveals and any other in-person events of that nature. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still celebrate. Here’s a look at the history of some of the key celebrations surrounding pregnancy and childbirth, how they’ve come to be the occasions we know and love today and how you can celebrate these exciting milestones with your loved ones.

Not all mama birds need our help designing a youthful nest. In fact, it was rather clear from our first conversations that Ashley had amazing design vision and style. It was about one year ago that we met and I learned that she was managing all the design decisions for a home they were building. She passionately spoke about finishes and layouts. While it was obvious Ashley wouldn't become a YouthfulNest client, I knew I needed to find a way to collaborate with her. We decided that her writing for our blog would be one of those ways – a win for us and our readers. Today she shares a peek into a very special room in her new home, her daughter Ever's new big girl bedroom. Princesses, animals, outer space oh my! Kids’ rooms are a great place to express your child’s little personality and get really creative. But just like adults, your child wants a bedroom that they can retreat to. One that is functional, but fun and inspiring. Here are some things to keep in mind when designing for your child’s bedroom.

It's time! Maybe your little one is simply growing out of their crib and needs more space. Maybe they have developed a personality that no longer jives with their baby room styling. Or maybe mom and dad are ready to help them grow. Whatever the indications or reasoning, at some point your baby is going to be ready for a "big kid" bedroom probably around the age of 3. Below I share five simple makeover tips for a smooth transition from the nursery into that more mature space that should be fun for you and them. I knew it was time to makeover my son's nursery that started it all for YouthfulNest, 'City Night Lite', after removing the changing pad and baby toiletries from the changing area. My son has also developed quite the interest in cars, it's beyond toy cars. He loves flipping through car mags with dad and can name almost any model that drives by us on the road or he's sees parked on the street. I really wanted to bring in "some" of his love of four wheel vehicles into his personal space. Especially since we don't do toys in the bedroom. We took our time and didn't race through the process. We had a couple speed bumps along the way, like when I told him with excitement he was getting a brand new full size organic mattress from Naturepedic. He wasn't as thrilled as mom was – instead he sulked and almost came to tears in a couple conversations about the change. I asked him why he was so upset and he said, "I just don't want to get rid of my very first mattress." I seized the opportunity to point out that his very first mattress was actually the crib mattress which we had already given away. " Then he said, "Oh, O.K." And we put that discussion to bed. In the end he loves the new bed frame and mattress because it is several inches lower then the original guest bed that was in his nursery so he can easily get up and slide off the bed. He thinks his new bed and all the other newness is perfect for him! This post may contain affiliate links which help support our blog efforts. This is sponsored by various retailers.
Today we are revealing this beautiful baby boy's Neutral Nursery completed with our online design service. Of course it didn't start out this way. In fact, it was the perfect pink and pretty room – for a little girl. Our client, Liz Lentis and I had connected over our love of saving moms time and money. Liz is the co-founder of LittleList.com, a site dedicated to introducing moms and moms-to-be to new products at exceptional promotional prices. When I learned Liz was pregnant with her second child, a little boy, and tackling a big makeover I filled her in on how our convenient, virtual interior design services would be the perfect fit for her busy schedule and time sensitive design needs. Since she knew she would be tackling a complete overhaul including new furniture and new wall color, she decided to go with our most popular edesign services rolled into the YouthfulNest Premium package. "The space needed such a dramatic makeover and I didn't know how it would be without the designers seeing it in person. But I was able to send send inspiration via Pinterest and the YouthfulNest team nailed it in terms of my vision for a neutral nursery." -Liz |
